High Way Race © 1983 Taito corporation.
An overhead driving game from Taito.
Game consists of 4 courses: Asian, American, African and European.
Even if the game uses an 8-way joystick, only 2 directions are actually used: left and right. The car accelerates automatically.
Game over can be reached in 2 ways: when the fuel runs out or when you fail the jump onto the platform (independent on the remaining fuel amount).
Runs on the "Taito SJ System" hardware.
Prom Stickers : AC4
Players: up to 2 (alternate)
Control: 8-way joystick
Buttons: 2
=> A = jump, B = brake
Released in April 1983 in Japan. Both upright and cocktail models were produced.
Copyright year is written in Roman numerals.
* Time your jump properly:
The 80; 60; 40; 20 and 00 numbers on the road indicate the distance to the platform. Try to jump between 20 and 00. Then hold the brake button until the car fully stops.
* Reckless drivers:
These appear after Asian course. Let them overtake you. Press brake and if the driver disappears from the screen (by exceeding the top edge), release brakes.
* Fuel trucks:
To refuel the car, drive close to rear wheels of either side of the fuel truck appearing somewhere in the middle of the course.
