TRIVIA

The intro's fire animation is generated by cellular automata derived from J.H. Conway's Game of Life algorithms.

Author said: "Le Pacte is above all an atmosphere game. It is inspired by the fantasy film Amytiville whose visual of the house had fascinated me at the time. I wanted to create a truly oppressive climate. It was the first game where I tried to make the player feel something, to communicate an emotion. It was an important step in my creations. It was not commercially successful, yet it has countless qualities, including some quite original concepts. Unfortunately it is weighed down by a dialogue interface that quickly makes it boring. Indeed, I had decided to get around the syntactic analysis problems of classic adventure games by limiting communication to the choice of a verb and a noun selected from two lists. The idea was not bad, but there were too many words to choose from. The list was not contextually adjusted... As a result, the player was forced to scroll through the words for a minute before reaching his choice, only to finally realize that it had no effect in the situation encountered!"
