Strider © 1989 US Gold, Ltd.
One sword wielding warrior takes on the Soviet Army in 2050 A.D. Port of the arcade coin-op of the same name.
Came on two 3 1/2" floppy disks.
Compatible with the Atari ST, STe, TT, and Falcon.
Takes advantage of the STe's scrolling hardware.
Developed by Tiertex Ltd., published by U.S. Gold in September 1989.
The graphics were converted straight from the coin-op by using an Amiga computer (Atari and Commodore were long rivals, with debates raging into today as to which computer was "better"). They were then corrected by hand using an Atari Mega ST.
Due to the Atari ST's technical limitations, some of the viewing space is taken up by a large, but nicely detailed scoreboard at the bottom. It still maintained a great look and played smoother than the Amiga version.
This game received the 2nd place award from ST Format magazine for Most Violent Atari ST Game of 1989.
Programming: John Prince
Graphics: Andrew Ingam, James Clarke
