Piranhas Game © 1977 McPheters, Wolfe & Jones.
The player must try to avoid being eaten by famished flesh eating fish. The player can move in eight directions with the keyboard and stand still. The game can also be paused. Piranha emerge at the edge of the river and have randomly generated properties such as initial position, velocity, and tracking ability. The player earns points for each turn staying alive and when the score reaches 1000 the player is given the autopilot ability where moves are made automatically by the computer to avoid fish. When it can't save the player points are deducting, possibly removing the ability to use autopilot again.
Released in December 1977.
