Newtrek © 1977 MECC [Minnesota Educational Computing Corp.].
A Star Trek variant. The player controls the Enterprise and must rid the galaxy from Klingons and Romulans. The galaxy is divided into 64 quadrants that can be explored. Each quadrant is again divided into 64 sectors. The player uses long and short sensors and probes to find enemies and can engage them with phasers and photon torpedoes. When the Enterprise is damaged or low on fuel the player can return to a starbase to repair and refuel.
When encountering enemy ships it's also possible to negotiate in an attempt to make them leave or surrender. In case of emergency it's possible to abandon ship after which the player receives a new ship called the Fairy Queen, additionally the player can self-destruct. An emergency warp can be used to fire one last shot while fleeing a battle and teleport can attempt to return to a starbase. Other experimental equipment are impulse engines (which can implode) and the death ray which is likely to destroy many aliens but has side effects.
Released on December 27, 1977.
