Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was released in October 1989.
The US and European releases of the game had an exploit involving an enemy's projectiles, attacking them would make farming for points very easy, so the Japanese release removed any points given from attacking a projectile.

The Famicom/NES port of the game was changed to accommodate for the console's limitations and other minor changes. Two extra stages were added. Another minor change is Raphael's special attack matched every other turtle.
