The game is named after the Football League Division One, which at the time was the top tier league in English football. The game however game you the option of a 'Superleague' which if turned on became the top division and the 1st Division would be the second league in the game.

The programmer must have been predicting the future, as indeed on February 20, 1992, the clubs in Division One broke away from the Football League to form the Premier League which became the country's top tier league replacing Division One which became the second tier and remains so to this day. It was renamed the "Football League Championship" in 2004.

The game's cassette cover contains portraits of managers Brian Clough and Graeme Souness and players Paul Gascoigne, John Barnes and Gary Lineker. All of these appear to be unlicensed and interestingly all expect John Barnes had their own Spectrum game.

The game's loading screen also features the likeness of Graham Taylor, the England manager at the time.
